Nestled in the heart of Tagbilaran City’s Historic District, the Garden Café is a beloved Boholano institution that has been serving quality food for a great cause to locals and visitors alike since 1983. Most of the restaurant’s employees are deaf and the profits are used to help fund the education of Bohol’s impoverished deaf children. It has a combined Vintage American West and Nostalgic Boholano theme that is reflected in the delicious variety of food served. The Garden Cafe Story

Born in 1983 from the imagination of Peace Corps Volunteer, John Fisher, the Garden Café was originally a small “Snack Shack” made of bamboo and coconut lumber.

The original purpose of the Garden Café was as a vocational training center for a handful of young deaf adults.

Together with co-volunteer, Dennis Drake, John formed a nonprofit organization that owned and operated the snack shack. It turned out, however, that the termites loved the snack shack even more than the people.
